How to use JotTransfer, JotPsych's EHR Chrome Extension

Edited

JotTransfer helps you move your JotPsych notes into your EHR faster.

You can use it to:

  • Copy a section (or the full note) and paste it into your EHR

  • Autofill the note into your EHR fields with one click (when your JotPsych template structure matches your EHR template structure)

Why use JotTransfer?

Most clinicians want their JotPsych note inside their EHR with minimal extra steps. JotTransfer is built for speed and simplicity.

Watch the tutorial: How to use JotTransfer

How to install JotTransfer

  1. Open this link to get JotTransfer in the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click Add to Chrome.

  3. Approve the permissions so the extension can work inside your EHR.

  4. Finish installation.

Tip: If Chrome asks for broad permissions (like access to websites), that's normal for tools that work across many EHR systems.

How to pin the extension (recommended)

Pinning keeps JotTransfer visible at the top of your browser so you don't have to hunt for it.

  1. In Chrome, click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions) near the top-right of your browser.

  2. Find JotTransfer.

  3. Click the pin icon so it stays next to your address bar.

How to use JotTransfer

Step 1: Open the extension and sign in to your JotPsych account. You'll see your notes list.

Step 2: Open the patient's note in your EHR

Navigate to the patient's note where you want the content to go (progress note / SOAP note / encounter note).

Step 3: Move the note into your EHR (two options)

Option A: Copy and paste (most controlled)

Use this when you only want certain parts of the note.

In the extension, you can:

  • Copy a single section (like HPI, MSE, Plan)

  • Copy the entire note

  • Choose specific sections from a dropdown (if available)

Then paste into the correct fields in your EHR.

Option B: Autofill (fastest)

Use this when you want the extension to place note content into your EHR fields automatically.

  1. In the extension, select the note you want.

  2. Click Autofill Note.

  3. Review the EHR fields to confirm everything looks right.

Note: Autofill works best when the section names in your JotPsych template match the field names in your EHR. The first time you autofill on a specific EHR template, it may take a few seconds while the extension learns the field layout. After that, autofill is usually much faster for that same template.

How field mapping works (what to expect)

When you use Autofill, JotTransfer maps parts of your JotPsych note (like HPI, MSE, Assessment, Plan) to your EHR fields.

You may see a section mapping view that helps you understand what mapped and where.

If anything doesn't map cleanly, you can still copy and paste those sections manually.

Troubleshooting

I installed it, but I can't find it.

  • Click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions) in the top-right of Chrome

  • Find JotTransfer

  • Pin it so it stays visible

Autofill is taking longer than expected.

  • The first autofill on a specific EHR template can take a few seconds

  • Future autofills using that same EHR template are usually faster

Some sections didn't show up in my EHR.

  • Check the section mapping to see what mapped

  • Copy the missing section(s) manually from the extension and paste into your EHR

The extension is open, but I don't see my notes.

  • Make sure you're signed into the correct JotPsych account

  • Refresh the extension (close it and reopen)

  • If you still don't see notes, email contact@jotpsych.com
